katherinehead
46:54
I am joining at the last minute. My email is kathyhead1@comcast.net
Toni-Anne Nunez
58:56
Yes we are recording this CLE
Toni-Anne Nunez
01:01:25
If you have any questions please leave them in this chat box and we will convey them to Simon
Jessica Blanton
01:01:56
Do you recommend disabling waiting rooms for mediations?
Tim Olsen
01:03:55
I don't see any control for the speaker volume inside zoom. Sometimes with computer's speaker volume at 100%, speaker is still faint.
Michelle Sylvain
01:04:17
comments on other platforms: I realize this is about Zoom, but I am wondering if he has heard of Legaler, and what he thinks of it in comparison to Webex and Zoom
Jessica Blanton
01:04:33
What are the pros and cons of having a waiting room enabled during mediation?
Debbie Brinley
01:06:51
You can lock the meeting after all participants are in as a security feature too beside using the waiting room. Double protection
Phyllis Roestenberg
01:09:57
For those of you who haven't used Zoom yet, they offer pretty great tutorials that will walk you through the process of setting up meetings and otherwise hosting through Zoom.
kpardikes
01:10:28
Thank you
Toni-Anne Nunez
01:10:30
Simon has provided links to zoom tutorials in his materials
Caroline Kert She/hers
01:10:57
I would love to hear tips on adjusting for the loss of body language cues, if any.
Jessica Blanton
01:11:49
Thanks, Debbie! I’ll have to look into locking in participants
kpardikes
01:14:37
When I am sending these messages is my name showing up? Kathryn
Kent
01:15:04
Yes
Toni-Anne Nunez
01:15:43
Kathryn, you name shows up as your email
kpardikes
01:16:30
Thanks for letting me know. I think I want to change that.
Toni-Anne Nunez
01:16:49
it shows as "kpardikes"
kpardikes
01:17:12
I do need to change that. Glad I asked.
Jessica Blanton
01:18:24
Are you able to create multiple breakout rooms in advance of the mediation? In a way, like setting up multiple conference rooms?
Suzanne
01:20:14
Can you put both attorneys in the same breakout room? Can you move them to a break out room wth their client and then separate them out?
Mark Chapleau
01:22:09
Suzanne and Jessica. Yes to both of you.
Chris Mannion
01:22:40
with regard to security, do you have to use a separate file sharing app to pass docs between each of the parties?
hazelehanley
01:23:27
What do you recommend to offset Zoom fatigue in an arbitration, which is NOT as divisible as a long mediation?
Jessica Blanton
01:24:47
Thank you, Mark.
Kent
01:24:47
You can set up breakout rooms in advance and set it up to initially put the separate parties into their own rooms.
Chuck Woodward
01:26:58
You can only do this if the parties have joined independently. If the parties are in their attorney's office, you cannot separate them virtually.
Dorothy
01:29:28
Do all the technical steps in coordinating the mediation add time to the usual 2 hour time fra
Debbie Brinley
01:29:32
please touch on billing — before zooming? after zooming? how do you recomment?
elizabethtelling
01:31:36
I have been using regular zoom for a while, downloaded the pro version last night. i can’t find options like the ‘security shield’ or breakout room options - are those pro options and, if so, do i need to reinstall zoom?
Kim Langelaar
01:33:01
Elizabeth Telling- I had the same thought- I do not see Security Shield or break out rooms
Toni-Anne Nunez
01:33:11
yes, breakout rooms are pro options. You may have to go into your account and look at settings
Kim Langelaar
01:34:27
Thank you Toni-Anne
mary davis
01:34:35
HI… I had to join late. Do you know what I should try to do next? I got your email, but don’t know if I have access to my settings because we have a shared pro account
patrc55
01:35:03
I have a shield on the top right corner of screen, but I cannot see prompts for break out rooms.
Lori
01:35:18
I am still sending the last few so if you haven't received an email yet, you will have one in the next 5-10 minutes.
Nina Kazazian
01:35:30
I have a pro account
mary davis
01:35:59
are we signing out of this meeting and creating a new meeting? I could do that
Beth Ornstein
01:35:59
Can you put the instructions in chat in case we don't get emails.
Patricia A. Riley
01:36:05
Can you give us 5 min to adjust our settings
Phyllis Roestenberg
01:36:39
I didn't receive an email about the break-out group. (I have a pro account.)
Kasey Clemans
01:37:08
need to enable breakout rooms in online zoom.us website settings
Debbie Brinley
01:37:18
Do you use doc sign to get mediations services agmts signed beforehand
Kasey Clemans
01:37:33
then you'll see the button for breakout rooms at the bottom along with the other controls like participatnts, chat, security, share screen, etc.
Caroline Kert She/hers
01:39:49
can you please clarify where the link to the video is?
Dell
01:40:16
Maybe stop talking and let us get on with it
Riley Patricia
03:03:59
I cant hear Simon, anyone else have this problem?
alpierce
03:04:13
I cannot hear him either.
melora
03:04:15
I can hear him. Are we allowed to record this?
Jacqueline
03:04:18
I can hear you Simon
Beth Ornstein
03:04:18
I can hear
Michelle Sylvain
03:04:21
No we can hear you
Bernadette Shetrone
03:04:23
I can hear
Riley Patricia
03:04:26
Ok, it was me LOL
David Littman
03:05:02
Sometimes when hearing is the problem, it is because sound is turned off on the computer.
Mark Chapleau
03:06:29
Simon, I found that to add the break-out rooms, I had to hit the view more settings prompt in settings and make the change to my break-our rooms on in the website.
Harry Steinberg
03:06:30
How does one allow a co-host
Kim Langelaar
03:07:24
Hi Harry- It is under settings.
Robert McGahey
03:07:35
Of course we
Judi
03:08:16
I have been told that if you lock a meeting and then your system goes down you will not be able to rejoin the meeting.
Kasey Clemans
03:09:55
I did it earlier this week (using waiting room with putting participants in and out) with a current version of Zoom.
Mark Chapleau
03:11:57
You can also use your phone type headphones on your computer so that only you can hear the other people speaking.
Riley Patricia
03:15:09
Simon, it would be extraordinarily helpful if you could generate a cheat sheet for settings, what is turned on or enabled, necessary v. unnecessary etc
Kasey Clemans
03:16:05
I agree with Riley Patricia that a cheat sheet re settings would be helpful as a starting point for people
Kim Langelaar
03:16:36
I am sorry Simon, I have to leave the meeting to get on another zoom meeting. If it's short I will be back.
Debbie Brinley
03:19:56
you can also type and share screen instead of white board which also allows you to save it
Robert McGahey
03:20:28
Guess I'll have to buy an iPad.
Bradley Yoder
03:20:50
Screen sharing from your desktop may show icons and other information that you may not necessarily want to have others looking at.
Charles Greenacre
03:21:18
Can the host disable private chats?
Michelle Sylvain
03:21:32
Yep so be careful.
Alan Kennedy
03:21:43
Hi Jacqueline, does Metro Volunteer Lawyers have any constitutional cases?
Debbie Brinley
03:22:01
You can turn off all icons at least you can on a MAC
Jessica Blanton
03:22:59
If you are using iPad as primary sources instead of desktop, can you link your phone as well? Or does the phone have to be hard wired to the laptop?
Dorothy
03:23:15
oops ….time frame for mediations.
Bradley Yoder
03:23:25
On Simon's computer you could see how many unread text messages he had, etc.
Toni-Anne Nunez
03:24:09
Alan - we do not have any constitutional cases but we have a lot of civil cases - family, bankruptcy, consumer, property
Debbie Brinley
03:24:39
you should always clear your screen before sharing anything so only the document you want to see is up there. Using full screen. Usually does this. Also you should look at it before sharing to be sure what will be shown
Dorothy
03:25:26
In addition to the Zoom Tutorials, can you recommend other "experienced" Zoom Mediators who offer one-to-one or small group training.....
Jim Delman
03:26:45
You can just leave them in the breakout room by themselves.
Debbie Brinley
03:28:09
exactly but the mediator has to be careful to announce their arrival back into the room or might inadvertently enter into a private convo. I tell people to text me when they are finished speaking privately whether by phone or in break out
Bernadette Shetrone
03:29:52
I would advise my clients not to discuss anything private while on the Zoom meeting. They can email us rather than having privileged conversations while doing online mediation
Debbie Brinley
03:30:56
Good point
Debbie Brinley
03:31:38
taking a break and leaving zoom altogether then reopening meeting is also a simple option
Bernadette Shetrone
03:32:18
That would be a good idea as well. That way attorney can have private telephone conversations with their clients
Beth Ornstein
03:35:35
Wanting to hear about "touch up my appearance"
Robert McGahey
03:35:52
Mine is fake, too. Just a picture of my courtroom.
Elizabeth Walker
03:36:19
Simon, do you include specific language in your agreement to mediate that address virtual mediations?
Patricia Riley
03:37:35
Simon, can you email us your mediation language from your agreement after this session
Barbara Cashman
03:37:35
touch up my appearance is under the video settings, the top arrow just to the right of the video camera on the ribbon
Patricia Riley
03:39:24
also in video settings, if you enable the HD setting it REALLY sharpens your video appearance, many of you are very fuzzy
Debbie Brinley
03:41:40
you can set up break out rooms in advance of meeting and have one party and their atty arrive 5 mins earlier, get them in room then have other come on. And you can leave them I waiting room until you are ready for them thus reducing potential for inadvertent wrong grouping
M. Tracy James
03:46:15
I think Quick Time allows you to record screen shot. The Host can’t disable that. I have an affirmation in the Agreement to Mediate that no recording of any kind is permitted.
melora
03:47:15
I would like to copy, please. I didn’t have the link to join this session at 8:30am so I missed everything that occurred before 11am. Thank you! (Although I did a short practice session with Joel Bogen which was helpful.
Patricia Riley
03:49:51
maybe vet the tech issues in advance by scheduling a dry run on a different day/time
Greg and Jenny
03:51:21
Question: What are Personal Meeting Rooms, and do you use one?
Patricia Chavez
03:51:28
for people just starting out, do you recommend face to face sessions first?
Toni-Anne Nunez
03:53:06
Metro Volunteer Lawyers is always looking for pro bono mediators (mostly in family law, but we have other cases too). Please contact Jacqueline at jrowley@cobar.org or me at tnunez@denbar.org
Catherine Alonzi
03:53:23
I have found that if the party with a poor connection turns off their camera, that often reduces the delay/audio problems. Also, if they limit other usages on their WIFI they may get a better connection.
Lori Dieckman
03:53:49
For questions about membership in theMAC, please email me at themac@coloradomediation.org or call 303-322-9275.
Margaret Olnek
03:55:54
is that true even when you are acting as a mediator and not as an attorney??
Michelle Sylvain
03:57:06
For those experienced in online mediation, the ADR is collecting names, contact information and area of specialty to produce a list of online mediators to share with courts and other private dispute resolution forums. Email Katie Null at CBA at knull@cobar.org
Michelle Sylvain
03:57:55
To join the ADR Section please feel free to email me mssylvain3@gmail.com or call 970-769-0039
Greg Whitehair
03:58:00
I do not COLTAF my mediation fees, I do consider mediation not to be the practice of law, which the Supreme Court has opined i believe.
Margaret Olnek
03:58:36
Greg - that’s what I thought. So do you also take payment in advance of mediation?
Joel Bogen
03:58:46
For questions about ethics as mentioned by Simon, please email theMAC Ethics Committee at ethics@coloradomediation.org
Bernadette Shetrone
03:58:57
I don't think you have to, but I would until I've earned the fees. I have separate accounts for CFI, Legal, and Mediation cases.
Greg Whitehair
03:59:03
Invariably, so i do not chase payment later.
Dorothy
03:59:09
Do technical responsibilities re technical clarity and equal access to types of technology significantly extend the length of mediations.
Karen A. Hammer, LL.M.
04:01:12
Please also keep in mind that the CBA Ethics Committee has a brief-consult peer service through its ethics hotline (which I chair). You can call the CBA office to get referrals to 2 hotline volunteers. There are disclaimers (of course) about the scope and use of the hotline.
